As from the 30th November 2005, when the transitional period ends (from 30th November 2002) it will no longer be possible to become an Irish citizen by lodging a post-nuptial declaration. Instead, it will be necessary to apply to the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform for a certificate of naturalisation based on marriage to an Irish citizen. The certificate may be granted subject to certain conditions, including a period of residence in Ireland.
Considering the above - the Embassy will be happy to provide advice and assistance regarding these changes, which are in accordance with the Irish Nationality and Citizenship Act, 2001.
Marriage to an Irish citizen may change your rights to live and/or work in Ireland.
